STYLES pays tribute to the musical heritage that influences today’s music, creating a musical bridge between what it was like back then and what it is today.
Inspirations and recordings happened in places as diverse as Spain, Denmark, Nashville TN, Florida, and New York.
The songs are mainly from 2016-18, between two visits to Nashville, except “Espamenco” which goes WAY back to 1989!
The album contains three interwoven journeys: Styles from the COUNTRY (inspired by the music and the story-telling from Nashville), styles from the CITY (influenced by the sounds of RnB, Soul and modern rock) and styles from the PAST (pop, rock and jazz of the 50s and 60s).
This album would have been but a demo on a dusty harddrive, if not for a number of people and events. Here they are, in roughly the order that they ‘joined the party’: · Steve Goodie for being an awesome engineer, musician, producer and friend in Nash-town. · Nicole Markson for sounding like a diva, a hard-rocker or a country girl, and for getting under the skin of the songs in no time. · Jody Nardone for coming around one day and sounding like he’d been there forever. · Rix Untidt for “the best ears around” and his always honest feedback. · Alan Binau for turning demos into songs with musicianship and production tips galore. · Floyd McCollum for playing claves, cowbell and vibraslap on “Espamenco” · Mika Thomson for adding trumpet and voice to it. · Stephan Kammerer for playing sax far away in distance but close in time and making it sound like he’s right in the room and completely timeless. · Lea Peters for creating a party mood, as she sounds like 2-4 people at the same time. · Nikolaj Bloch for jumping in with a great sounding electric guitar and creating instant perfect licks. · Henrik Jespersen for designing and creating the cover.
I am also grateful for the interactions with great people at NSAI (Mason Douglas and RC Bannon) for song advice, Brett Perkins for letting me in on where to go and what to do in Nashville in 2016, my wife Zinda, my coach and friend Judith Germain and my family for patiently listening to MANY iterations of the songs and finally, my parents for allowing me to start playing guitar in sixth grade.
